I've never seen Plan 9 From Outer Space, but I've read the plot synopsis online - although it's probably nothing compared to seeing the hilarious awful-ness of the film, I'm guessing.

With some slight tweaking of the story (like what these artworks would fit into) and of course some better effects and acting, I think the film would've been pretty well-liked for non-campy reasons.

Weird, totally just watched Plan 9 today for the last day of my screenwriting class. It was very hard to watch. However, I think you could make a pretty nifty little game out of the story. You make the characters look pretty cool.

...oh deary me X'D this is pretty rad...I would say it could be made slightly niftier if the props and grave stones looked like they were held together with duct tape, keeping in spirit with the film X'D
